Head of Accounting and Tax -Manufacturing / Industrial
We are seeking a hands-on Head of Accounting & Tax for a leading cement producer operating as part of an international building materials group.
Based in Istanbul and working closely with the production facility and relevant Group functions, this role will lead the company’s accounting, statutory reporting and tax compliance activities, ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timely delivery of financial information across the organisation.
The role will coordinate monthly and annual closing processes, oversee local statutory and IFRS reporting, strengthen financial controls and ensure full compliance with Turkish accounting and tax legislation.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting and tax expertise with a practical, business-oriented approach. Experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment, particularly in cost accounting, fixed assets and investment-related processes is compulsory.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Close
• Lead the effective and timely execution of all general accounting activities in accordance with applicable legislation, company policies and Group standards.
• Coordinate monthly, quarterly and year-end closing processes in close collaboration with plant finance teams and other business functions.
• Review and approve accounting entries, reconciliations, supporting documentation and other financial transactions.
• Ensure that the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers are accurate, complete and properly reconciled.
• Maintain high standards of accounting discipline, documentation and internal control throughout the organisation.
• Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and improve accounting processes through greater use of SAP S/4HANA and digital tools. Statutory and IFRS Reporting
• Lead the preparation of local statutory financial statements and coordinate the preparation of IFRS-compliant financial reporting.
• Ensure timely, accurate and transparent reporting to senior management and relevant Group stakeholders.
• Analyse financial results, identify material variances and provide clear explanations to management.
• Support the alignment of local accounting practices with Group reporting policies, consolidation requirements and international standards.
• Ensure the consistency and integrity of financial information across statutory, tax, management and Group reporting. Tax Compliance and Governance
• Oversee the accurate and timely preparation, review and submission of all tax declarations and statutory filings.
• Ensure compliance with corporate tax, VAT, withholding tax, stamp duty and other applicable Turkish tax regulations.
• Monitor export-related accounting records, VAT refund receivables and associated reconciliations.
• Coordinate tax audits, inspections and information requests, ensuring that all records and supporting documentation are complete and readily available.
• Manage relationships and correspondence with the Tax Office, Social Security Institution, Trade Registry and other relevant public authorities.
• Monitor legislative developments and assess their potential financial and operational implications for the company.
• Work closely with external tax advisers and auditors on complex accounting and taxation matters. Manufacturing, Cost Accounting and Investments
• Oversee industrial cost accounting processes and ensure the accurate allocation and reporting of production costs.
• Review inventory valuation, fixed-asset accounting, depreciation and capital expenditure records.
• Ensure the accurate accounting and reporting of incentive-supported and non-incentive investments.
• Research government incentives, tax advantages and other support mechanisms that may create financial value for the company, and coordinate their proper implementation.
• Prepare and review reports relating to investments, incentives, fixed assets, production costs and other management requirements. Audit, Controls and Stakeholder Management
• Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors, tax advisers and relevant regulatory authorities.
• Ensure that accounting records and supporting documentation comply with the requirements of tax authorities, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, external auditors and Group policies.
• Coordinate the proper retention and archiving of accounting and statutory documentation.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal controls, financial governance and ways of working. Experience and
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline.
• SMMM/YMM qualifications would be considered an advantage.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and taxation, gained within a multinational, industrial/manufacturing organisation.
• Previous experience with a Big Four audit or advisory firm would be an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of Turkish accounting and tax legislation, statutory reporting requirements and IFRS.
• Demonstrable experience in industrial cost accounting, inventory valuation, fixed assets and capital expenditure processes.
• Advanced, hands-on knowledge of SAP S/4HANA and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Experience coordinating monthly and year-end closing processes across multiple locations or plant operations.
• Exposure to external audits, tax inspections and relationships with public authorities.
• Professional fluency in written and spoken English is a must Leadership Competencies
