Role Purpose

The Principal, Direct Financing Division, is expected to actively contribute and participate in the tasks and processes of deal origination, structuring, due diligence, negotiation, credit approval, coordination for financing documentation & completion of conditions precedents, disbursement, portfolio management, etc. The geographical coverage of the role includes Member Countries (MCs) of ICD in Central Asia, Türkiye, and Albania (ECA Region). The sectoral coverage includes infrastructure, energy & water, mining, manufacturing, agribusiness, services, etc.

Key Functional Accountabilities and Activities

Project Sourcing & Origination:

  1. Originate new bankable deal opportunities that align with the risk appetite of the Corporation and target market sheet of the Banking Department.
  2. Maintain relationships in the target ICD MCs and outside to promote ICD's term direct finance products and services.
  3. Propose and execute client origination and sourcing strategy including identification of target countries, products, sectors, and development goals.
  4. Collect Know Your Customer (KYC) documents from clients and work closely with the Legal & Compliance Department for compliance clearance.
  5. Participate in the client onboarding process.
  6. Support the supervisor/head in the preliminary appraisal stage to assess the feasibility of financing proposals/projects.
  7. Participate in the preparation and negotiation of mandate letters with clients.
  8. Obtain necessary client and project documents for transaction proposals.
  9. Coordinate internally and externally for the selection and appointment of external advisers.
  10. Conduct preliminary reviews of financing proposals and develop financing concept documents.
  11. Initiate and participate in negotiations with clients regarding project timelines and disbursement criteria.
  12. Collaborate with deal team members for effective due diligence and smooth execution.
  13. Contribute to the preparation and presentation of credit financing proposals to relevant committees.
  14. Ensure legal documents are reviewed, prepared, and executed as per transaction structure.
  15. Coordinate with Risk Management Department for clearance on the Closing Memo.
  16. Work closely with legal advisers and clients for the completion of conditions precedents for disbursement.

Monitoring & Reporting:

  1. Prepare for evaluation, structuring, and execution of transactions and manage disbursements.
  2. Follow up with clients and co-financiers to ensure compliance with effectiveness conditions.
  3. Handle waivers and amendment requests, providing appropriate analysis and recommendations.
  4. Coordinate with intercreditor agents and other financiers on an ongoing basis.
  5. Conduct annual reviews and submit reports.
  6. Report overdues and take appropriate actions.

Stakeholder Management:

  1. Maintain and expand relationships with clients, sponsors, project developers, co-financiers, and financial advisors.
  2. Ensure project objectives are met and portfolio quality is maintained.
  3. Stay updated on national development priorities and investment climate developments.
  4. Work collaboratively with relevant ICD colleagues.
  5. Guide and mentor younger colleagues in the deal team.
Qualifications/ Professional Experience
  1. At least 3 years of relevant experience in corporate banking, project financing, or credit risk management roles.
  2. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Accounting, or related field.
  3. Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or relevant STEM subject or relevant Professional Certification (ACA, CFA, ACCA, CIMA).
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Strong teamwork skills.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
