Financial Controller (Located in Liberia)

About the Role – Financial Controller

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead and manage all aspects of our financial operations. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting, ensuring compliance with international standards, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organization.

The position is based in Monrovia, Liberia, and operates on a roster system (66 days on / 18 days off).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including the accurate booking of financial transactions related to Billing, Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (GL), Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  2. Coordinate and execute daily accounting records and reconciliations, including bank, supplier, and intercompany account reconciliations.
  3. Lead the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets and regular financial forecasts; analyze and report variances to senior management.
  4. Prepare, review, and publish timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  5. Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, documented, filed, and reported in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  6. Supervise the preparation and timely submission of statutory and regulatory financial reports to local and international authorities.
  7. Research and interpret technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with IFRS and regulatory frameworks.
  8. Actively participate in and oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
  9. Implement and uphold robust quality control and internal control mechanisms across all financial reporting processes.
  10. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  11. Drive the development and continuous improvement of financial procedures and accounting policies to enhance internal controls and mitigate financial risks.
  12. Monitor financial health through regular review of the balance sheet, cost structures, and spending efficiency; identify and act on improvement areas.
  13. Provide strategic financial advice and operational support to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  14. When required, support operational teams on-site at mining locations, working closely with field offices and assisting in cash management, expense tracking, and local financial oversight.
  15. Stay informed of changes in financial regulations, tax law, and accounting standards and apply relevant updates to internal practices.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  1. University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  2. Minimum of two years of experience, preferably in a Big Four audit firm or a multinational corporation.
  3. Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
  4. Demonstrated experience in managing a full finance function.
  5. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  6. Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  7. High attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills.
  8. Ability to work in a multicultural and international environment.
  9. Flexibility to travel as required.
