Job Description

Avesoro, a leading gold mining company in West Africa, seeks a highly skilled Financial Controller to join its dynamic team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of our financial operations, ensuring compliance with international standards, and supporting strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage accounting operations, including accurate booking of financial transactions related to Billing, Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (GL), Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  2. Coordinate daily accounting records and reconciliations, including bank, supplier, and intercompany account reconciliations.
  3. Lead the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets and regular financial forecasts; analyze and report variances to senior management.
  4. Prepare, review, and publish timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  5. Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, documented, filed, and reported in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  6. Supervise the preparation and timely submission of statutory and regulatory financial reports to local and international authorities.
  7. Research and interpret technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with IFRS and regulatory frameworks.
  8. Actively participate in and oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
  9. Implement and uphold robust quality control and internal control mechanisms across all financial reporting processes.
  10. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  11. Drive the development and continuous improvement of financial procedures and accounting policies to enhance internal controls and mitigate financial risks.
  12. Monitor financial health through regular review of the balance sheet, cost structures, and spending efficiency; identify and act on improvement areas.
  13. Provide strategic financial advice and operational support to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
Requirements
  • University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience, preferably in a Big Four audit firm or a multinational corporation.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a full finance function.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills.
