About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced professional to serve as Middle East and North Africa Director, leading our work in the region. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the region's complexities and nuances, as well as exceptional leadership and communication skills.

The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for the MENA region, which includes leading a team of researchers and analysts to produce high-quality reports and briefings. This role requires strong networking skills and the ability to engage with key stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and the media.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the MENA region, aligning with Crisis Group's overall goals and objectives;
  • Lead a team of researchers and analysts to produce high-quality reports and briefings on crisis situations in the MENA region;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and the media;
  • Work closely with colleagues to identify emerging trends and developments in the region, and develop targeted policy recommendations;
  • Oversee the development of an advocacy program in the MENA region, promoting Crisis Group's policy recommendations through various channels;
Requirements
  • PhD or Master's degree in international relations, political science, law, journalism, sociology, or equivalent through experience;
  • 10+ years professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism, NGO, international organizations, or government work related to the MENA region;
  • Excellent knowledge of regional politics, conflicts, and societies, and extensive contacts with governmental and non-governmental officials, the media, and local and international civil-society organizations working in the region;
  • Expertise covering governance issues, security-sector reform, and institution-building;
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and networking skills, and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations;
  • Fluency in English and Arabic (oral and written);
