About the Role

Crisis Group seeks a senior expert to lead our work in the Middle East & Northern Africa (MENA) Program. The successful candidate will oversee research, analysis, policy prescription, and advocacy activities in the region.

The Regional Conflict Analyst will be responsible for engaging with governments, NGOs, international organizations, and the media to promote Crisis Group's analysis and recommendations. This role requires strong knowledge of regional politics, conflicts, and societies, as well as excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of analysts to produce high-quality reports and briefings on crisis situations in the MENA region;
  • Establish and implement a conflict-focused research agenda in close collaboration with colleagues;
  • Coordinate field-based research and analysis necessary to produce timely and informative publications;
  • Work closely with representatives of governments and international organizations to gather information and feedback;
  • Maintain and extend the advocacy program in the region, promoting Crisis Group's policy recommendations through various channels;
Requirements
  • PhD or Master's degree in international relations, political science, law, journalism, sociology, or equivalent through experience;
  • 10+ years professional experience in conflict analysis, journalism, NGO, international organizations, or government work related to the MENA region;
  • Excellent knowledge of regional politics, conflicts, and societies, and extensive contacts with governmental and non-governmental officials, the media, and local and international civil-society organizations working in the region;
  • Expertise covering governance issues, security-sector reform, and institution-building;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills, and ability to formulate well-targeted policy recommendations;
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent public presentation skills, a very strong capacity for effective teamwork, and proven experience in a supervisory role;
  • Fluency in English and Arabic (oral and written);
