Job Title: Senior Investment Officer

At IFC, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Investment Officer to join our team in the Middle East, Central Asia, Türkiye, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (MCT) region. This is an exciting opportunity to work on investment business development and portfolio management, contributing to the growth and success of our clients.

About the Role

As a Senior Investment Officer, you will be responsible for originating, managing, and monitoring financial sector investments in the MCT region. Your primary goal will be to help grow and develop the investment business, taking an active role in the supervision of the FIG investment portfolio across MCT.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business consulting or investment banking, with a proven track record in business development and portfolio management. You will be expected to build long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders, identify business opportunities, and engage effectively with other syndicate lenders.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders to identify business opportunities and engage effectively with other syndicate lenders.
  2. Work with clients to identify how IFC can add more value to their company and improve the quality of IFC's investment.
  3. Supervise the gathering of lessons learned on essential topics across the portfolio, connect trends from different portfolio areas, and recommend how these could improve business development and transaction structuring.
  4. Contribute to shaping upstream market creation approaches or interventions for the financial sector across the MCT region.
  5. Contribute to the formulation and implementation of a cross-regional business development strategy.
  6. Collaborate across IFC, World Bank, and MIGA to support business development for the IDA PSW and other blended finance facilities and maximize the value of strategic partnerships.
  7. Contribute to the quarterly assessments of ratings, loan loss reserves, or valuations in respect of the FIG MCT portfolio.
  8. Analyze strategically important portfolio trends to identify where they are most concentrated and the contributing factors.
  9. Take a leadership role in discussing findings and their implications at quarterly review meetings.
  10. Lead teams in structuring deals that strike a balance between clients' expectations and protecting IFC's and other lenders' rights.
  11. Conduct quality control to ensure the accuracy and adequacy of analytical work performed by junior staff to assess transactions.
  12. Assess and articulate the development impact of various investment projects.
  13. Maintain high-level relationships with clients to stay on top of industry trends and create new short-term and future business opportunities.
  14. Oversee or supervise assigned staff and consultants.
  15. Develop assigned staff and members of the broader team through mentoring, coaching, and providing on-the-job learning opportunities.
  16. Perform complex credit risk rating assessments, covenant compliance reviews, and development impact assessments.
  17. Review the quality of portfolio review work performed by more junior staff.
  18. Oversee the portfolio management work of analysts and investment officers for assigned portfolio to identify gaps and create a macro view of the financial, compliance, and risk status of the portfolio.
  19. Anticipate emerging risks.
  20. Prepare investment committee materials focusing on financial and nonfinancial risk assessment and deal structuring.
  21. Use networks to keep project moving and collaborate with key internal stakeholders to obtain buy-in on deals and negotiate risk and mitigation strategies.
  22. Ensure seamless communication flow and cooperation among all IFC team members and external stakeholders.
  23. Shape business leads into actionable concepts ready for mandate by identifying and screening potential investment opportunities, preparing the investment thesis, and leading the pre-concept review structuring of those opportunities.
Selection Criteria

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a related field and at least 12 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes a proven track record in business consulting or investment banking, as well as operational experience in the sector or technical or professional field. Accreditation as a CFA or CPA is considered a plus.

The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of the financial sector, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and make informed investment decisions. They should also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

In addition, the candidate should have a strong analytical mind, with the ability to identify trends and patterns in financial data and to develop creative solutions to complex problems. They should also have excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
